CoolSculpting® vs SculpSure®

CoolSculpting® vs SculpSure® 5.00/5 (100.00%) 8 votes

CoolSculpting®

VS. SculpSure®

WHY Doucet Med Spa Chose SculpSure®

It’s normal to be skeptical about any treatment that promises fat loss.  Body contouring used to be something that only a surgery could accomplish… but not anymore!  Non-surgical body contouring has become the latest craze.  Currently, there are 2 systems that offer similar results for permanent fat destruction.

CoolSculpting® (which hit the market several years ago) and the newest technology called SculpSure®

CoolSculpting® uses Cryoliposis to freeze the fat cells to destruction.

Each treatment takes about an hour, and the treatment size is relatively small.  Your fat tissue has to be pinched into the applicator and a majority of patients will need two hours for one treatment.  After a CoolSculpting® treatment, when the applicator is removed you are left with a large lump of tissue that the practitioner has to massage immediately and you are usually left with bruising and you will be sore.  You can have numbness and tingling in the treatment area due to the freezing that may affect the nerves.  But it does work if the practitioner is well trained to perform your treatment.

Sculpture®uses a laser technology to heat the fat cells to destruction.

Each Sculpture® treatment destroys 24% of the fat cells in the treatment area in just 25 minutes. (That’s half the time of CoolSculpting®) The applicators click into a grid that is customized for your target area and it is placed on top of your skin.  There is no pinching.  You will experience waves of heating and cooling.  The treatment area is much larger and really easy to customize.  Afterwards, there is no “lump of tissue” to massage immediately.  There is no bruising.  There is no risk of nerve tingling from freezing.  And, as a courtesy, for patients that are super sensitive, we can prescribe a non-narcotic pain medication to take prior to the treatment.  The really cool thing about Sculpture® results is that the treated area is super smooth.  The laser is able to spread the energy creating a smooth contour.

With CoolSculpting® , your can have a shelfing effect where the treated area isn’t smooth.

After sculpture®, you can actually treat on your lunch hour, go back to work or go to the gym right after your treatment with no evidence!

THE ADVANTAGES OF SCULPSURE® OVER COOLSCULPTING®:

Faster Treatment Time with SculpSure® takes just 25 minutes per session, while a CoolSculpting® treatment session lasts one hour.

Fewer Treatments Needed with SculpSure®

– Fewer treatments may be necessary with SculpSure® and it can be customized to treat up to four areas at once, or a larger surface area, whereas

CoolSculpting® can only treat one area of the body at a time.

No Downtime and Quicker Recovery with SculpSure®

Smoother Results/Skin Tightening – SculpSure® also has no downtime or recovery period.

CoolSculpting® may cause bruising, tingling and/or numbness and may require patients to refrain from strenuous activities for a little while.

Smoother Results/Skin Tightening with Sculpsure®

Sculpsure® results are extremely smooth and spread to surrounding tissue to create a beautiful contouring and patients may benefit from some skin tightening as an added benefit from the laser energy.

CoolSculpting® can result in a “shelfing effect” where the treated area is uneven.

Quicker Results with Sculpsure®

CoolSculpting® results may take as long as four to six months to become noticeable.

I hope this information is helpful and we look forward to seeing you for your private Sculpsure® consultation at Doucet Med Spa!  Please call us at 361-561-0240 and visit www.doucetmedspa.com.

CHEMICAL PEELS CAN DRAMATICALLY TRANSFORM YOUR SKIN’S HEALTH AND APPEARANCE

CHEMICAL PEELS CAN DRAMATICALLY TRANSFORM YOUR SKIN’S HEALTH AND APPEARANCE 4.60/5 (92.00%) 5 votes

ThePerfectDermaPeel-ChemicalPeelBlogR

Chemical peels can dramatically transform your skin’s health and appearance

A chemical peel involves applying a chemical solution to the face or body to remove surface layers of skin. Chemical peels can transform your skin, providing younger, healthier looking skin in just a few days.  This non-invasive modality typically involves 2-7 days of visible peeling. Superficial peels performed by licensed estheticians can give skin a nice “glow” but results are temporary. Medium to deep peels performed in a doctor’s office use stronger ingredients and involve some social down time, but provide a more lasting result and improve common skin issues such as sun spots, age spots, melasma, enlarged pores, acne and acne scars. A chemical peel can also make the skin appear dramatically younger, especially if done in a series of 2 – 4 treatments using proper home care product in between peels. Chemical peels are designed to help improve various problematic skin conditions.  Some high quality peels can help erase fine lines and wrinkles, reduce enlarged pores and help build collagen and elastin, which in turn will tighten and firm the skin. In addition, chemical peels may reduce or eliminate hyper pigmentation and melasma. They also help improve the appearance of acne scars.   SkinOptions-The-Perfect-Derma_Peel There are many chemical peel treatments on the market today, which can make it difficult when it comes to deciding which brand to use and which ones have effective ingredients. The combination and quality of ingredients are very important to maximize the results of a chemical peel. One leading chemical peel that offers a safe, virtually painless peel experience and high-quality, effective ingredients is The Perfect Derma Peel by Bella Medical Products, which contains glutathione as one of its main active ingredients. Glutathione is an anti-oxidant that helps increase cellular turnover to diminish stubborn acne scars.   The Perfect Derma Peel is one of the most popular chemical peels available and has earned doctor recognition world wide.  The formula combines Glutathione, Kojic Acid, TCA, Retinoic Acid, Phenol, Salicylic Acid, and Vitamin C.  Alone the ingredients are powerful, but the combination produces amazing results.  The anti-oxidant Glutathione neutralizes the harmful effects of free radicals for healthier skin.  Kojic Acid is a powerful lightening agent proven to increase collagen and elastin production, resulting in skin that is brighter and tighter.  TCA, Phenol and Retinoic Acid reduce wrinkles and correct pigment problems, while Salicylic Acid exfoliates the skin and reduces inflammation.   A chemical peel can:

  • Improve the overall tone and texture of your skin
  • Lighten and brighten your skin
  • Remove or reduce hyper pigmentation, melasma, sun damage and age spots
  • Reduce the appearance of pore size
  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce or eliminate acne and acne scars
  • Stimulate the production of collagen resulting in firmer skin

The Perfect Derma Peel requires no preconditioning of the skin prior to treatment.  However, sun exposure should be limited during the peel process, and a high quality SPF must be used daily.  This is a standard requirement for all chemical peels. It is very important to read all precautions and follow all directions closely prior to treatment.   Application of The Perfect Derma Peel only takes a few minutes.  The patient may feel a slight stinging or tingling sensation that will subside within seconds.  Numbing takes place once the first pass is applied.  If desired, a fan may be used during the application process for the comfort of the patient. Immediately after the peel has been applied the skin will either appear pink or red, like a sunburn, or darker in some cases. This is normal and should be expected.   With The Perfect Derma Peel, peeling typically begins after a couple of days. Some chemical peel treatments offer moisturizers that will help reduce the visibility of peeling by hydrating the skin. The peeling is mainly a sloughing of thin sheets of dead skin cells. By day six or seven the peeling process is normally complete and the results are often dramatic. The right chemical peel can give you younger, healthier looking skin in a short period of time. The exfoliation process will reveal a fresh, new complexion.   Results last as long as the skin is maintained with proper skin care products and maintenance peels. It is generally recommended to do two to four treatments per year to maintain your results.   Consult your doctor to find out if a chemical peel is the right treatment for you.

THE ULTIMATE ANTIOXIDANT

ThePerfectDermaPeel-Blog2

Glutathione is the ultimate antioxidant known to prevent damage to important cellular components caused by free radicals and peroxides. As we age, our Glutathione levels are depleted due to sun exposure, air pollutants and environmental stress.

The Perfect Derma™ Peel is the only peel that premieres Glutathione as a founding component and is the only true anti-aging ingredient offered exclusively in our formula. The Perfect Derma™ Peel works from the inside to repair and nourish the skin by giving it a radiant glow, refining pores, improving skin hyperpigmentations, lifting melasma, controlling acne and preventing acne marks. Most importantly, the Glutathione element defies the aging process.

Glutathione penetrates deep into the cellular level of the skin to fight oxidant damage and is the anti-aging answer to premature wrinkling. Glutathione is proven to reverse the melanin’s metabolism turning dark pigmentations (eumelanin) into light pigmentation (phaeomelanin)

Your Skin In Your 20s and 30s: Obagi Educators Weigh In

Your Skin In Your 20s and 30s: Obagi Educators Weigh In 5.00/5 (100.00%) 3 votes

early-signs-of-aging-womanAt what age did you realize it was time to step up your skin care routine? Were you in your 20s or 30s? Maybe 40s? After you answer, think about this: at what age do you wish you had started to take better care of your skin? Recently, we posted this question on our Facebook page and were surprised to hear many of you say you wish you had started a good skin care routine earlier than you did. Well, let us remind you, it’s never too soon to take great care of your skin.

We sat down with our Obagi Education Managers, Aimee and Perri, to ask them about the early signs of skin aging and what they recommend you do to address these first signs when they arise.

Where do most people first notice signs of aging?

Signs of aging are often noticed on the eyes, face, hands, and décolletage. Using proper sun protection, like applying sunscreen and wearing a hat, will ensure that you are doing your job to protect your skin against sun damage and can reduce the chances for signs of aging including mottled hyperpigmentation (dark spots), fine lines and wrinkles, and rough texture. Simple, yet effective!

How is younger skin different than aging skin?

Aged skin exhibits certain characteristics due to the natural intrinsic aging process, which is affected by genetics and nutrition, as well as extrinsic factors like sun exposure and free radical damage. As we age, several changes occur in our skin:

  • Our melanocytes (the cells that give our skin its color) decrease in number
  • The epidermis exhibits significant thinning due to decreased production of collagen and elastin, and
  • Sebaceous glands no longer produce as much oil as younger skin.
  • Thus, aging skin often appears paler, drier, and thinner than it did when we were younger.

It’s obvious to see why your skin care regimen will change throughout your life. Your 20’s is an ideal time to start making regular appointments with your skin care physician to discuss your skin care.

I occasionally breakout with acne. How can I combat adult acne and wrinkles at the same time?

A retinol can be a wonderful option for a patient with acne-prone skin who also has emerging skin-aging concerns. Experts believe retinols (and other retinoids) work by supporting skin cell turnover which, in turn, keeps dead skin cells from clogging pores. They also smooth the and reduce the mottled appearance of sun damaged skin.1

I’m in the 25—35 years old age bracket. What is a good general routine to care for my skin?

A good, basic skin care routine includes an appropriate cleanser for your skin type (normal/oily or normal/dry), an exfoliant, and a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Retinols can assist with acne-prone skin and early skin aging concerns that are common at this age. A great Obagi system that encompasses a range of products to address these early signs of aging is Obagi360™.

Of course, everyone’s skin is different and it’s important to talk to your skin care physician about which products are right for you and about any other skin care ingredients that can help with specific concerns you might have.

I’m starting to notice fine lines, crow’s feet and/or bags around my eyes. What can I do to address this?

Obagi offers great products that can help address the signs of skin aging around the eyes. Our ELASTIderm® Eye products are specifically designed for the delicate eye area and come in three formulations; a cream, a gel and a serum with a roller ball applicator for varying skin needs. Our ELASTIderm Cream and Gel formulations contain a bi-mineral complex formulated to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crepiness around the eye. Alternatively, the ELASTIderm Serum, with a roller ball applicator, uses the same bi-mineral complex but also offers 2% caffeine to help reduce puffiness around the eyes.

I’m not ready for more serious cosmetic procedures like injections or fillers. Is there something I can do or a skin care product I can use that can help me looking younger but is not as aggressive in nature?

Whether or not you’re interested in injections, fillers, or other cosmetic procedures, you always want your skin to looks its best. Obagi Medical Products offers several great skin care systems for patients who would like to address various skin aging concerns without undergoing the knife or needle. One of the newest rising stars is in our product line-up is the Obagi360 system, which happens to be designed specifically for addressing early signs of aging. Harnessing the power of retinol, this simple 3-product skin care system offers a multitude of benefits, including an exfoliating cleanser (to support skin cell turnover and minimize acne breakouts), retinol, and a dual function broad-spectrum UV defense and moisturizer in one. Consider starting on this system while you’re young to help keep signs of skin aging at bay.

In addition, Obagi offers a full spectrum of transformation skin care systems to meet the needs of all ages and all skin types. For more information on the following systems, visit our products page:

Obagi Nu-Derm®: Designed for moderate to severe signs of skin aging and pigmentation.

Obagi-C® Rx: Ideal for early intervention and appropriate for a patient with mild to moderate signs of aging, or for the patient who may not be ready for the Nu-Derm System.

Gentle Rejuvenation: For a sensitive skin patient, who is looking for calming and soothing products that are non-irritating.

What is your number one tip for preventing or slowing skin aging for every skin type?

Our number one tip for reducing the visible signs of skin aging is to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every single day—during the winter and summer, rain or shine! A broad-spectrum sunscreen like our Obagi Sun Shield SPF 50, provides protection against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. Too much exposure to UV light can wreak havoc on your skin, resulting in not only immediate consequences like sunburn, but also contributes to wrinkling, sagging, and pigmentation and texture changes. As our Head of Product Development, Laurence Dryer, explains in this video, sun damage can lead to structural changes in the skin that may not be visible for years. Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen can keep these signs of skin aging at bay, and help to prevent future damage to the skin. And remember, it’s important to be sure you apply ample sunscreen and re-apply it throughout the day—we recommend every two hours, especially if you are swimming, exercising, or perspiring.

In addition, ingredients like L-ascorbic acid, used in Obagi’s Professional-C™ Serums, are another great way patients can minimize the signs of skin damage caused by the sun and other environmental stressors.

Of course, aside from good skin care we always recommend drinking plenty of water, eating a variety of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables, and getting enough sleep for general health!

Med Spa client and Obagi-C® skin care
made all the difference!

Going from ‘good’ to ‘great’ skin may not seem like much of a transformation but for many of you that use Obagi® products to help prevent skin aging and maintain younger-looking skin, it makes a significant difference. Whether it be that added boost of confidence, extra time in your makeup routine because of your already flawless complexion or the reassurance that you’re taking preventative measures to protect your skin, we take great pride in hearing how many of you have achieved your personal best thanks to Obagi.

Meredith, a busy mother of 2, shares how her active lifestyle prompted her to choose the Obagi-C® Rx System to prevent future damage and improve the overall appearance of her skin. Between running marathons, teaching spin classes, and her family’s active outdoor lifestyle, Meredith’s skin was taking a beating. She noticed that with all of her exercise and outdoor activities, her sweat would often lead to breakouts, and she was becoming increasingly aware of the damage the sun could have on her skin.

After meeting with a skin care physician to discuss her skin concerns and busy lifestyle, Meredith and her doctor decided that the Obagi-C Rx System would best fit her needs. The five-step skin care system is designed to address the early signs of aging and skin damage. “It’s very simple,” Meredith says. “If it was any more complicated, I probably wouldn’t do it.” As someone who never applied sunscreen daily prior to discovering Obagi, Meredith was apprehensive about adding a sunscreen to her morning routine and was concerned about how a truly effective sunscreen might clog her pores and affect her skin. To her great surprise, the Obagi Sun Shield Matte SPF 50, was nothing like other sunscreens she had used in the past—“it’s light, non-greasy and doesn’t clog my pores when I exercise” she explains. Now, she never leaves the house without this protective layer and feels confident that she is doing her job in preventing sun damage to her skin.

Watch Meredith’s story of how she uses Obagi to improve the overall appearance of her skin and prevent future damage to her skin.

Vitamin C: The Super Antioxidant Your Skin Is Craving

Vitamin C: The Super Antioxidant Your Skin Is Craving 5.00/5 (100.00%) 1 vote

oranges-and-obagi-pro-c-serum

Your mom was right when she told you to take your vitamins. Not only do they make you healthy and strong, but many vitamins are beneficial to your skin, too. In fact, Vitamin C is offered in topical formulas that can be applied to the skin and can help prevent skin aging and protect against sun damage.1

Benefits of Vitamin C

The topical form of Vitamin C is called ascorbic acid, and it is known as “the most important skin antioxidant.”2 Antioxidants protect against damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals as well as environmental pollutants.3 In particular, the antioxidant Vitamin C works by speeding up the skin’s natural repair systems and by directly inhibiting further damage.4 Numerous clinical studies have proven the skin benefits of Vitamin C and confirmed that it can help protect against the signs of skin damage by:

  • Stimulating collagen synthesis1
  • Reducing inflammation1
  • Suppressing pigmentation5
  • Retaining moisture6
  • Enhancing UV protection1
  • Replenishing Vitamin E7

Not All Topical Vitamin C Is Created Equal

There are many Vitamin C preparations on the market that claim to do amazing things for your skin. But be aware that Vitamin C in its most commonly found forms is highly unstable when exposed to oxygen, rendering it ineffective.8

Fortunately, Obagi Professional-C SerumsTM use a Vitamin C formula in its most stable form, and absorbs and remains in the skin longer to offer maximum antioxidant benefit.9,10 Our Professional-C Serums are available in 4 strengths for different skin types and needs.

So continue eating your fruits and veggies for all the health benefits they offer; and book an appointment with your skin care physician to learn more about Professional-C Serums and how topical Vitamin C can help you look good, too.

Stretch Your Thinking About Yoga’s Benefits

Stretch Your Thinking About Yoga’s Benefits 5.00/5 (100.00%) 2 votes

yoga-tree-poseA healthy lifestyle encompasses many things, from eating right and practicing smart sun protection to exercising and finding adequate ways to relax. Each month, Obagi will feature different healthy lifestyle tips and ideas you can incorporate into your everyday life. This month, we’ll explore the myriad physical and emotional benefits of practicing yoga.

Why We Love Yoga
Often, people hear the word “yoga” and assume it’s an activity requiring the flexibility of a Cirque du Soleil performer. However, even basic yoga can result in noticeable and almost immediate benefits for everyone. Consider just being able to touch your toes again without straining.

There are several different styles of yoga, so you’ll want to experiment to find the one that’s right for you. Nonetheless, improving your flexibility is beneficial at any age or ability level, because safely stretching your muscles and soft tissues through yoga may help release built-up lactic acid, reducing pain and alleviating muscle tightness.1 That’s a lot of gain for little-to-no pain!

Calm Yourself
The deep, meditative breathing you’ll practice in yoga focuses on lengthening the breaths, which improves lung capacity and relaxation, suppressing the adrenaline response triggered by stress.1 In addition, consider that a concentrated focus on breath and holding complex poses correctly doesn’t really leave that much room for stressful thoughts from your day. Not a bad bonus!

Mind Over Body
There are biochemical responses too. Yoga has long been known to lower blood pressure and incidence of heart disease.1 Over time, it can help you build strength and endurance. Yoga can even have cosmetic effects. As it keeps stress levels down, it also reduces the release of stress hormones that can aggravate acne, eczema, and rosacea.2

Beyond the Science
Across the Internet, you can read about the many people who maintain that doing yoga has slowed their aging by improving posture, decreasing back pain, and allowing them long periods of deep concentration. To validate these claims for yourself, you can visit a local yoga studio and drop into a beginner’s yoga class, or try out this basic yoga pose (below) at home.

Try the Tree Pose
Now that you know a little about the benefits of yoga, here’s a beginner’s pose to try on your own. To familiarize yourself with the steps of the Tree Pose, we suggest watching one of the many how-to videos available online.

  1. Stand with arms at your sides.
  2. Keeping left leg on the ground, slowly lift right leg, placing right sole inside left thigh, hips facing forward.
  3. Bring hands in front of you in prayer position, palms together.
  4. Keeping legs and palms in position, inhale and bring arms over shoulders. Hold pose for 30 seconds.
  5. Lower and repeat on opposite side.

Congratulations! You’ve completed your first yoga pose!

A smart start with lasting benefits
Antioxidants, which are found in many fruits, have been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and create a more youthful-looking complexion.1 Antioxidants can help fight free radicals—tiny, unstable molecules that have been shown to cause damage at the cellular level—and when applied topically, antioxidants can help reduce the signs of skin damage caused by the sun and other environmental stressors. Did you know that blueberries rank third as a natural source of antioxidants after prunes and raisins?2 You may notice an energy boost from such a nutritious start to your day and find yourself exercising more! In this recipe, yogurt provides protein, calcium, and good bacteria to aid digestion. Bananas are packed with potassium and slow-release sugar to sustain you throughout the day. Blueberries are also full of fiber, so you may notice that you feel full sooner, and you’ll eat less. And finally, orange juice is a popular source of Vitamin C. Prepare Your Skin for Summer in the Sun

Prepare Your Skin for Summer in the Sun 5.00/5 (100.00%) 2 votes

Obaji-for-summer-timeSunshine, fresh air, and the great outdoors make us fall in love with summer year after year. But no one falls in love with their sunburn, especially those who know that the damaging effects from the sun can lead to premature skin aging, age spots, and even skin cancer, including melanoma.

In fact, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with 3.5 million skin cancers diagnosed in 2 million people annually. Each year, there are more new cases of skin cancer than breast, prostate, lung, and colon cancers combined.

We’ve Got You Covered

To reduce your chance of developing skin cancer and other complications associated with excessive sun exposure, take a few precautionary measures before you hit the beach or the backyard barbeque this season.

  • Wear a high-quality broad-spectrum sunscreen like the Obagi Sun Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 50. Broad-spectrum sunscreens are formulated to protect you from both UVA and UVB rays—the two types of UV light that damage the skin.
  • Use sunscreens daily. Even if you work indoors, you are still exposed to UV radiation for brief periods of time throughout the day.
  • Lotions and makeup that contain SPF should not replace your daily sunscreen. You would need to apply 7 times the normal amount of foundation and 14 times the normal amount of powder to receive the full SPF on the labels.
  • To ensure that you get the full SPF of a sunscreen, you should apply 1 oz (about 1 espresso shot full). Studies show that most people apply only half to a quarter of that amount, which results in an SPF of half to a quarter of what is labeled on the bottle.
  • Sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes prior to sun exposure to allow time for the ingredients to be absorbed by the skin.
  • It is just as important to reapply sunscreen as it is to put it on in the first place. You should reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours or immediately after swimming, toweling off, or sweating.
  • It is necessary to wear sunscreen even on a cloudy day. Approximately 40% of the sun’s radiation reaches the earth’s surface even when it’s completely cloudy outside.3
  • Purchase a pair of sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. Aside from being a great way to make a fashion statement by the pool, wearing protective clothing is one of the best ways to protect against the damaging effects of the sun.
  • Be smart about how you protect your skin this summer and for summers to come. Your skin care provider will be able to provide you with some additional advice. Their advice, combined with these simple skin protection tips, can significantly reduce your risk of developing complications and skin diseases that result from overexposure to the sun.
